Gopher Snake

This nice looking four foot gophersnake was just in the wrong place to be photographed.  Since she was fully extended she was easy to relocate.

A gentle pull on its tail and rattle drew her backwards onto the gravel.  She was not very upset by this.

You can see that she could only extend herself by about a foot from her current position.

By the time she got a good sniff of me (note the extended tongue) she thought that she would add a little bit of zig to her zag and pose as if to strike    I think that my cameras were more disturbing to it than I was. She did hiss at me and shakeand shake its tail as though it had a ratlle.
